Hint to my fellas, this is my idea of a Mother's Day treat. Let me sleep in until at least 8am, and then bring me breakfast in bed. Bonus points if this is the breakfast, made with lemon-rosemary bread from Della Fattoria- my Petaluma mom's know. I learned how to make this little egg treat years ago when I worked at an artisanal bakery in Portland. It has a lot of different names: One Eye, Egg in the basket, Toastie...this recipe is really quite simple to make. I added a little finely chopped asparagus tip and sliced pecorino cheese to mine. Since Mother's Day is fast approaching, I thought I'd switch things up and share a little DIY today. Mother's day is more than brunch and flowers, it's a time show your appreciation for all of the little things she's done for you. I made a set of vases for my mama from these beautiful birch print paper straws I found at Paper Source. My mom has always been an enthusiastic supporter of my work, even when it was just macaroni necklaces and finger paint. Because many of you are moms yourselves, I thought today's post should be a giveaway. All you have to do is leave a little comment to be entered to win your own pack of 144 birch paper straws.
Birch Straw Vases
Materials:
1 Package of straws
2 Cans, washed and dried
Hot glue gun
Dot hot glue in the center of the can. Use a seam to position the straw vertically. Add straws, applying glue and placing straws flush with one another. See pictures below.
I recently
dropped my iPhone on the kitchen floor, face first, trying to keep it
out of Wylie's mitts, therefore destroying the darn thing all by myself.
Needless to say after a few days of cutting my cheek trying to make
phone calls, it was time to get a new one. My J.Crew case was starting to show it's age, and now I have the standard issue boring black one while I hunt for something more me. Here's a funny infographic from Tiny Prints about iPhone cases. My favorite part is the statistic on dropping your phone in the toilet. Two of my best friends have recently done this (one of them into a toilet in a particularly yucky bathroom).
Warning, spoiler alert if you are a mother in my son's kindergarten class. I put together a very on trend gift for the kids to make today in art. Inspired by the dipped wood all over Pinterest, I picked up 3 packs of the wooden kitchen utensils at IKEA (at $.49 its a steal). Using masking tape, I marked the dip line and lightly coated the ends with acrylic paint. Once dry I tied the set together with baker's twine.
